I wonder how many digital compacts do you have, and I think that you last purchase of Canon SX200 is a good choice, but I also think that you have to move to something that will put you in a completely new way of photographing yourself… A purchase of a Nikon D3000 (or better a Nikon D5000 with live view tilt screen) even a Canon EOS1000 which is cheaper (all the above with just a basic lens), will give you much better results, because of low (or even NO) noise in high ISO settings needed for your situation.
These models are not so expensive, they give you accurate autofocus too…
